in high school

i was wearing a skirt

with nylons

which decided to run

and in a hallway packed with students

i ducked into a doorway

to see how large the hole was

on my upper thigh.

i thought i was alone

and as i lifted my skirt

i heard an unfamiliar voice say

"eww, you have thunder thighs"

i remember the experience

effecting me so little.

my confidence being so high at

the peaking age of 14.

god bless my adolescent soul.

looking back

i was strong at such a typically

weak emotional age.

no wonder i am who i am today.
