i've been trying to lock up

the sides of me that would make anyone cringe

[and not write about them

and not talk about them]

until you told me,

just in afternoon blanket talk,

that it was obvious what had been done to me.

i'm not going to lay low anymore

or cower away from who i've been

because of what i've been through.

i've encouraged you to make a difference with your hands,

now i

am going to do it

with my voice.
