tonight i wrote two letters.

the first was to a loved one who is frustrated by something i have been doing.

the second was to the county police asking them to renew my father's gun license.

though entirely different purposes, the message was the same. in both, this line could have been written:

i am exercising my rights. i am asking that you respect my right to do this as an adult; as a human being living under free will. and i am asking that you believe in me that i know how to do this without hurting anyone.
