into the woods

"Into the Woods" is my most favorite musical of all time. I don't usually enjoy musicals, but this one is brilliant because it's fun and the music is amazing, but also because there are so many metaphors and so much symbolism in the story line that it could blow your mind. Not to mention that it is written by THE most brilliant composer ever, Stephen Sondheim. Some of my favorite quotes from it are:

"how can you know who you are til you know what you want which you don't so then which do you choose? where your safe, out of sight, and yourself but where everything's wrong? or where everything right and you know that you'll never belong?"

"who out there can love you more than i? what's out there that i can not supply?"

"if you know you can't get what you want, where's the profit in wishing?"

" 'you're so nice, you're not good you're not bad you're just nice' i'm not good, i'm not bad, i'm just right. i'm the witch, you're the world"

"oh why bother? you'll just do what you do"

"agony, when the one thing you want is the only thing out of your reach"

"people make mistakes; fathers, mothers; terrible mistakes. witches can be right, giants can be good, you decide what's right, you decide what's good- just remember someone is on your side, someone else is not. no one is alone, truly, no one is alone."
